Released in February 2022, this 28-page, A4-size full
colour softback booklet was created to celebrate the Snowbirds 50th
birthday.
The history of the Snowbirds has been covered in depth in a
number of excellent books and other media over the years. They provide
invaluable records of events, personnel, displays and the role of the team,
etc. - but for modellers, historians, aircraft enthusiasts and the like, they
have not completely detailed the Snowbirds aircraft and their colour schemes.
This publication attempts to address that.
This evolution begins back in 1967 with the
Golden Centennaires - as part of the rich heritage of RCAF and Canadian Forces
display teams, they must be included as the direct ancestors of the Snowbirds.
It then goes on to illustrate and detail many of the systems and all of the
often subtle changes in the markings on the teams aircraft over the last
50 years.
All of the illustrations are based on actual photographic
evidence, but as many photos may be small, low quality or simply not taken from
the right angle, illustrations were composed - often from multiple sources - to
show things more clearly.
This book is dedicated to all
Snowbirds, past, present and future - especially those who are no longer with
us.
